How it works

Your first Medicare meeting. What to expect.

Three relaxed steps. No pressure. You decide every move.

1

We listen

Tell us when you're turning 65, your current employer coverage, your doctors, your medications. We don't lecture. We ask.

2

We map your options

We explain the difference between Original Medicare + a supplement and Medicare Advantage in plain language, and what each means for you specifically.

3

You enroll on your timeline

When you're ready, we do the paperwork. If you're not ready, no pressure. We'll be here when you are.

You start Medicare with confidence. No penalties, no second-guessing, no confusion.

Medicare gets a lot less scary when someone local walks you through it.

What new-to-Medicare folks wish they'd known

The 65-and-new mistakes we help you avoid

Most of what trips up first-timers is timing and plan-type, not the carriers. Here's what most North Central Florida folks run into, and how we're built to keep you out of it.

What you're up against:

  • Late-enrollment penalties that follow you for life
  • Picking the wrong type of plan and being stuck for a year
  • Out-of-network doctor surprises after enrollment
  • Spam calls from out-of-state "Medicare advisors" the moment you turn 64
On time, not late

You enroll on time and avoid lifetime penalties

We map your Initial Enrollment Period to your specific birth month and any employer coverage you have. Same Lake City team year after year. NABIP members.

The right type of plan

You pick the right type of plan the first time

We compare Original Medicare + a supplement vs. Medicare Advantage based on your doctors, drugs, and travel patterns. Not on what pays us most. Independent agency. NABIP membership and RSSA® on staff.

Quiet, not pushy

You keep your doctors

Before you enroll, we confirm your specialists and primary-care doctor are covered under whichever plan we recommend. No out-of-network surprises after the fact.

Same doctors. New coverage. We confirm your providers are in-network before you enroll.
For life, not for a transaction

You have a real local person to call later

Year-round advocacy by phone, virtually, or in person from our Lake City office. Same team next year, the year after, and the year after that.

Common questions before you call

FAQ

When do I sign up?

Your Initial Enrollment Period is a 7-month window: 3 months before the month you turn 65, the birthday month itself, and 3 months after. We help you map yours exactly.

Do I HAVE to enroll at 65 if I'm still working?

Not always. If you have qualifying employer coverage, you may delay Part B without penalty. We'll review your specific situation for free.

Original Medicare + supplement, or Medicare Advantage?

Depends on your doctors, your medications, your travel, and your budget. We compare both for your situation in plain English. No allegiance to any one plan, no pressure.

Is your service really free?

Yes. The carrier you choose pays our fee, never you. If you don't enroll, you also owe nothing.

Are you with Medicare or the government?

No. Senior Health Advocates is an independent insurance agency. We are not connected with or endorsed by the U.S. government or federal Medicare program.

Will you keep calling me?

No. We don't cold-call. After enrollment, we check in once a year at renewal, and only then unless you ask us to reach out.

A quick primer

Your Medicare-at-65 timeline

Four things to know before your 65th birthday.

  • Your Initial Enrollment Period is 7 months. 3 months before your 65th birthday month, the birthday month itself, and 3 months after. We map yours to your specific birth date.

  • If you take Social Security before 65, you're auto-enrolled in Parts A & B. Otherwise you have to actively sign up. We confirm which path applies to you.

  • Employer coverage may let you delay Part B without penalty. Not every employer plan qualifies. We confirm whether yours does so you don't pay for coverage you don't need yet.

  • Late enrollment without qualifying coverage adds a 10% Part B penalty for every 12 months you wait, for life. This is the single biggest mistake we keep new clients from making.
